Abstract:

The centipede Newportia stolli (Pocock, 1896) is reported to occur in Cuba and the Antilles for the first time. The genus Newportia Gervais, 1847, known from localities in eastern and central Cuba, is recorded from the western part of the island. Thirty-four lots and 40 specimens from 4 collections were examined, along with unpublished field data from the authors. A redescription in Spanish is provided to facilitate the identification of the species by future researchers. Newportia stolli, formerly considered an exclusively epigean species, is recorded as endogean. The number of Newportia species listed for Cuba is now eight. Newportia stolli is found both in urban and natural areas, and is considered not threatened.
