Los grandes olvidados: El caso de los ciempiés de los órdenes Geophilomorpha, Lithobiomorpha y Scutigeromorpha

Resumen: Los quilópodos son un grupo de miriápodos con una diversidad media y que se componen de cinco órdenes. Tres de estos órdenes, Geophilomorpha, Lithobiomorpha y Scutigeromorpha han sido pobremente estudiados en el territorio colombiano a lo largo de los años. Los dos primeros órdenes contienen más de 1000 especies, mientras que el tercero apenas alcanza las 95. Teniendo en cuenta el bajo protagonismo que han tenido estos grupos de ciempiés, nace este estudio cuyo objetivo es actualizar la información taxonómica de los tres órdenes mencionados utilizando diversas fuentes de datos. Se realizó una búsqueda exhaustiva de documentos en diferentes bases de datos, además de un análisis de los registros de ciempiés disponibles en el SIB Colombia en las colecciones biológicas. Se encontró que la diversidad de los tres taxones fue de 10 familias, 16 géneros y 15 especies. Asimismo, se encontró la presencia de los tres órdenes en 25 de los 32 departamentos del territorio colombiano. También fue posible evidenciar grandes vacíos taxonómicos, especialmente en Geophilomorpha, donde un gran número de registros no sobrepasan el nivel taxonómico de orden. La diversidad de estos grupos sigue siendo relativamente enigmática debido a la poca información que existe de estos grupos, además que en Colombia los expertos en el tema de la miriapodología son escasos. Por lo anterior es necesario adelantar estrategias que permitan la correcta formación de profesionales en esta área de la zoología y así resolver la cuestión de la diversidad de ciempiés en el país.

The great forgotten: The case of the centipedes from the order Geophilomorpha, Lithobiomorpha and Scutigeromorpha

Abstract: Chilopods are a group of myriapods with a medium diversity and that are composed of five orders. Three of these orders, Geophilomorpha, Lithobiomorpha and Scutigeromorpha, have been poorly studied in colombian territory over the years. The first two orders contain more than 1000 species, while the third barely reaches 95. Taking into account the low prominence that these groups of centipedes have had, this study was born which objective is to update the taxonomic information of the three mentioned orders using various data sources. An exhaustive search of documents was carried out in different databases, in addition to an analysis of the centipede records available in biological collections into the SIB Colombia. The diversity of the three taxa was found to be 10 families, 16 genera and 15 species. Likewise, the presence of the three orders was found in 25 of the 32 departments of the colombian territory. It was also possible to show large taxonomic gaps, especially in Geophilomorpha, where a large number of records do not exceed the taxonomic order level. The diversity of these groups is still relatively enigmatic due to the little information that exists on these groups, in addition to the fact that in Colombia there are few experts on the subject of myriapodology. Therefore, it is necessary to advance strategies that allow the correct training of professionals in this area of zoology and thus solve the question of the diversity of centipedes in the country.
