Verhoeff produced a total of 671 publications.
In 1942, he received the Forel Medal and the Forel Prize of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina for his work in the field of Entomology (Sachtleben, 1942)[1].
According to Crabill (1960: 14)[2], Verhoeff was the first person to study the Scolopendromorpha mandible with any precision and from the standpoint of comparative morphology (see Verhoeff, 1918: 467-532), extending the study beyond the examination of the masticatory surface and thereby preparing the way for future investigations.
