Arvioiduista lajeista äärimmäisen uhanalaisia (CR) on 489, erittäin uhanalaisia (EN) 918, vaarantuneita (VU) 1 260, silmälläpidettäviä (NT) 1 912, puutteellisesti tunnettuja (DD) 1 792, hävinneitä (RE) 312 ja elinvoimaisia (LC) 15 735. Uhanalaisten osuus kunkin elinympäristön arvioiduista lajeista on korkein tunturipaljakalla (37,9 %). Uhanalaisten lajien määrä on suurin hemiboreaalisella ja eteläboreaalisella vyöhykkeellä Etelä-Suomessa. Julkaisussa vertaillaan arvioinnin tuloksia vuoden 2010 tuloksiin esimerkiksi uhanalaisuusindeksin avulla. Lisäksi julkaisussa tarkastellaan vuoden 2010 uhanalaisuusarvioinnin ohjausryhmän ehdotusten toteutumista. Arvioinnin tulosten pohjalta Eliölajien uhanalaisuuden arvioinnin ohjausryhmä (LAUHA) esittää 13 toimenpide-ehdotusta uhanalaisten lajien suojelun, hoidon, tutkimuksen ja seurannan järjestämiseksi ja rahoittamiseksi. Arvioinnit on tehty eliöryhmäkohtaisissa työryhmissä ja työn tulokset esitellään eliöryhmittäin 39 luvussa.

The Red List of Finnish Species 2019

Abstract: This publication describes the fifth assessment of Finnish threatened species. The current estimated number of species in Finland is at least 48,000. Sufficient information was available for the evaluation of 22,418 species or lower taxa, which is approximately 47% of all species. In total, 2,667 species or lower taxa (11.9%) were assessed as threatened. The red-listed species, which, in addition to threatened species, include the species classified as Regionally Extinct, Near Threatened, and Data Deficient, total 6,683 (29.8%). Of the species evaluated, 489 were classified as Critically Endangered (CR), 918 as Endangered (EN), 1,260 as Vulnerable (VU), 1,912 as Near Threatened (NT), 1,792 as Data Deficient (DD), 312 as Regionally Extinct (RE), and 15,735 as of Least Concern (LC). The assessment was carried out in accordance with guidelines and criteria issued by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and applied in assessments at the regional level. These criteria are based on observed, estimated, inferred, or projected population size reduction; the extent of occurrence or area of occupancy; continuing decline in a small population or a very small size of population; or a quantitative analysis. In addition, species’ habitats, as well as causes of threat and threat factors, were documented in the Finnish evaluation. The majority of threatened species live in forests (31%) and in rural biotopes and other cultural habitats (24%). Of the species assessed the proportion of threatened species is highest in Alpine habitats (37.9%). The number of threatened species is highest in the hemiboreal and southern boreal zones in southern Finland. The results of the assessment are compared to the previous assessment 2010 for example with the Red List Index. In addition, proceedings of the proposals given by the steering group of the previous assessment are evaluated. The steering group of this assessment made 13 proposals for measures for the arrangement and financing of the conservation, management, research, and monitoring of threatened species. The results of the work of the expert groups responsible for the evaluation are presented in 39 organism group -specific sections.

Red Listing of Threatened species is recognized as the most objective approach for evaluating extinction risk of living organisms which can be applied at global or national scales. Invertebrates account for nearly 97% of all animals on the planet but are insufficiently represented in the IUCN Red Lists at both scales. To analyze the occurrence of species present in regional Red Lists, accounts of 48 different countries and regions all over the world were consulted and all data about myriapods (Myriapoda) ever assessed in Red Lists at any level assembled. Myriapod species assessments were found in eleven regional Red Lists; however, no overlap between the species included in the global IUCN Red List and the regional ones was established. This means that myriapod species considered threatened at regional level may not be eligible for international funding specific for protection of native threatened species (more than US$ 25 million were available in the last decade) as most financial instruments tend to support only threatened species included in the IUCN Red List. As the lack of financial resources may limit protection for species in risk of extinction, it is urgent to increase the possibilities of getting financial support for implementation of measures for their protection. A Red List of all Myriapoda species recorded in Red Lists at national or local (596) and global (210) scales totaling 806 species is presented. This list shows for the first time an overview of the current conservation status of Myriapoda species. Here, the urgent need of establishing a Myriapoda Specialist Group in the Species Survival Commission of IUCN is also stressed.

Since the year 2003, six millipede species new for the Czech Republic were announced. All of them were discovered in small populations mostly in natural habitats. They can be divided into two groups. One is represented by rare, relict and stenoecic species (Hungarosoma bokori, Hylebainosoma tatranum and Melogona transsylvanica). The other group is represented by species exhibiting a closer relationship to subterranean habitats in the Czech Republic (Brachychaeteuma bradeae, Macrosternodesmus palicola and Geoglomeris subterranea); their presence in the Czech Republic was revealed by modified pitfall traps used for collecting of deep-living invertebrates and by combination of several methods used during the research in caves. All six species are listed in the Red List of Threatened Invertebrates in the Czech Republic.
