In the period 1999–2014, occurrence and diversity of millipedes was investigated at 90 localities in the Jizerské hory Mts (most of them being covered by the Jizerské hory Protected Landscape Area), Frýdlantská pahorkatina Hills, Ještědský hřbet Ridge and Liberecká kotlina Basin. The material was collected using a combination of three methods: individual sampling, pitfall trapping and sifting of leaf litter. In total 41 millipede species were found, making up 53% of the millipede fauna recently known in the Czech Republic. In general, the Jizerské hory Mts together with the adjacent areas of the Frýdlantská pahorkatina Hills, Ještědský hřbet Ridge and Liberecká kotlina Basin rank among the richest areas in millipede diversity in the Czech Republic. The most frequent species were the common millipedes Leptoiulus trilobatus, Julus scandinavius, Haasea germanica, Unciger foetidus, Mycogona germanica, Proteroiulus fuscus, Nemasoma varicorne and Polydesmus complanatus. The rare species Trachysphaera costata, Melogona gallica and Haploporatia eremita were recorded. The Botanical Garden in Liberec hosts the rare synanhropic species Cylindroiulus vulnerarius, otherwise known in the Czech Republic from Prague only. The highest numbers of millipede species per site were found in natural habitats of Zlatá Olešnice (14) and the Křížový vrch Hill near Frýdlant (12). The same number (12 species) was recorded in the city of Liberec and in the abandoned quarry in the Vápenný vrch Hill near Raspenava. In addition, two synanthropic species, Oxidus gracilis (tree nursery in Nové Město pod Smrkem) and Cylindroiulus caeruleocinctus (city gardens in Frýdlant, Lázně Libverda), were recorded. The wettest localities (peat bogs of Nová louka and Na Čihadle) and the sites damaged by industrial emissions (Černá hora Mt.) were free of millipedes.
